Description
A very rare, early English naval cutlass from the height of the golden age of pirates, circa 1690-1710. This heavy weight sword taking much of its appearance from the English civil war, with a heavy iron hilt and still retaining its original wooden grip. Thirty four and three quarter inches overall. with a 29 inch fullered blade. The form of the sword predates the first British regulation cutlass by a decade or so, the first pattern disc hilt was introduced in 1720. The hilt and grip are in excellent condition, the blade though very sound has areas of corrosion and pitting. Considering what it must have been through 330 years ago, I thinks its doing very well to still be here.
