A rare British midshipman’s naval dirk, circa 1790. This dirk has a very small grip and was made for a boy of little more than 11 years. These young midshipmen were referred to as volunteer class or midshipmen ordinary as they were in a sense trainees. Seventeen inch curved plain steel blade with brass cross guard hilt and ebony grip. Twenty one inches overall with original leather scabbard.
