A very rare early flintlock pistol by Mortimer of London, circa 1760




A very rare early flintlock livery or horse pistol by one of the top gunmakers of the time, Mortimer of London, circa 1760. This hansom pistol, brass mounted and with a brass two stage barrel of .6 bore. The barrel top signed Mortimer, London. sixteen and a quarter inches overall with a ten inch barrel. The brass lock with slide safety, signed Mortimer. Walnut full stock with a fine side plate. Interestingly it has been double proofed during its working life. A rare survivor for over 260 years. As you would expect, this pistol has ware and minor losses and is in working order.
